Cursor

Framecast draws your pointer again after recording, so you can change how it looks, make it bigger, smooth out shaky movement and let it lean as it moves.

TrustMRR — a large, crisp Arrow cursor with strong smoothing

How it works

While you record, Framecast leaves the pointer out of the picture and notes where it goes. In the editor it draws the pointer again, so you can change every cursor setting after the fact.

Open the Cursor tab in the inspector on the right.

The Cursor tab: the five cursor styles, Size, Smooth movement, Same size for every cursor, Steady cursor shape, Hide while typing and Lean

Choose a style

  • Recorded: the pointer as macOS drew it, shape changes included.
  • Arrow: a crisp black arrow that stays sharp at any size.
  • Arrow (light): the same arrow in white.
  • Touch: a round dot, like a finger on a touch screen.
  • Hidden: no cursor at all. See Hide the cursor.

Size and movement

  • Size: from 0.5× to 4×. New projects start at 1.6×, so the pointer is easy to follow in a smaller video.
  • Smooth movement: evens out shaky, jumpy mouse movement. Higher is smoother. At 0% it reads Off and the pointer moves exactly as recorded.
  • Press animation: the cursor squeezes a little each time you click.

Keep it tidy

  • Same size for every cursor: text cursors and hands look as big as the arrow.
  • Steady cursor shape: skips shapes that only flash by as you move, like the hand over a link or the arrows at a window’s edge. Shapes you click or stop on still show.
  • Hide while typing: the cursor fades out as you type and comes back when you move the mouse.

The first two show only with the Recorded style, because the other styles always keep one shape.

Lean

Lean lets the pointer tilt as it moves:

  • None: the pointer always stands upright.
  • Tilt: it leans with fast sideways moves and stands upright again at rest.
  • Follow: the arrow points the way it moves, like on a leash, and keeps that heading when it stops.

Lean amount sets how far it leans: Subtle, Medium or Strong.

New recordings have Same size for every cursor, Steady cursor shape and Hide while typing on, and Lean set to Tilt. Older projects keep their look until you change these.

Circles and sounds on each click are in the Clicks section below. See Click effects.

Imported videos already have the pointer in the picture, so these settings don’t apply to them.
